How To Make Realistic New Years Resolutions And Stick With Them

It is crazy how fast time flies - it is already 2016 and it feels like it was just Halloween to me.
2015, was an accomplishing year for me with finishing my undergraduate degree, starting a new job, traveling overseas, bringing new furry members into my family and the list goes on. I am totally the type of person to create a new years resolution list. I think it's important to reflect back on what you learned, hated, and loved about 2015 and the years prior.
But of course, new years resolutions always have a little bit of a stigma attached to them. Because we often make them a bit unrealistic - I admit it, I do too. By doing that, we tend to brush them off quite quickly and forget they even existed. I find it is extremely important to write them down and keep them in a spot where you see daily. It is a cute and quick reminder to keep you on your game always. At my work desk, I have my huge wall calender (which is all hot pink flowers and you can find at www.bluesky.com) but I keep my days extremely documented so I don't forget anything. I also have a tiny planner that I keep in my purse with me at all times. That way I am always on track!
Some of the new years resolutions you hear go something like this...
"I want to lose weight" "I'm going on a diet"
"I am not dating x anymore"
"I'm not drinking"
"I'm going to the gym everyday"
"Stop shopping"
"I'm not going out for awhile"
The list goes on.
While some of those things without a doubt are great resolutions some of them are unrealistic.

While it took me a good while to figure this out - I think I have finally gotten to a place in my life where realistic resolutions are in my future!!!! So I thought I'd share a few of mine with you all and hopefully inspire you to work on yours if you haven't done so already. One of my resolutions last year was to be more spontaneous and I think I did that. I am such a control freak I love to plan things out and sometimes its important to just live in the moment and let everything flow. Some of the best times you will ever have are the nights and moments that don't stick to plan.
My dog wasn't apart of my plan but I couldn't imagine my life without him.

So here are just a few of my resolutions for 2016....
1. Be more proactive about getting to the dentist/doctor. While dental work isn't ideal - neither are root canals and things that are a result of not getting regular check ups. Make an apt for yourself every 3 months.
2. Continue to educate myself on new topics. Just because college ends doesn't mean your learning has to! Find new books and webinars to participate in. Learning can be FUN - if you make it!
3. Actually try to get good sleep every once in awhile. Your skin and health depends on it!
4. Hydrate more with drinking more fluids and applying lotion - these two things will matter greatly when you get older. Treat your body like the temple that it is - you only get one.
5. Be less stubborn when it comes to things you don't want to do or others wh have let you down. Try to forgive more and hold grudges less.

And everything in between.
What's your resolutions for 2016?
Xoxo,
A Guy's Girl
