Real life: We live in a fame or shame society.
That is the world we live in today. If you don't have a lot of followers on Twitter/Instagram you aren't relevant, according to some people's peers. If you don't weigh 100 lbs then you're fat. If you don't look like certain celebrities on IG, your self esteem goes right out of the window.
Even though my blog is titling me as a Guy's Girl, I have always been into fashion. Not just about the clothes but about new trends, taking risks with your appearance, being different and developing your own sense of style has always been so motivating to me. But back in high school, before we could follow models on Twitter/IG - the rising models were almost non-existent. You never saw them unless you were flipping through a gossip mag and pretty much they all looked the same.
You know the model type - skinny, tall, long hair, exotic eyes, oh and did I mention skinny?
I was really proud of the last series on the blog, 'Daily Dose of Perspective' which highlighted a range of different individuals that I consider to be exceptional people. So I wanted to start a new series that will happen every Monday called - #RoleModelMonday. This week I am going to feature, Gigi Hadid.
Like I said before, even though I'm really into sports I also have been really into some girly things since I was little. I first saw Gigi Hadid in a Guess campaign and of course thought she was beautiful - who woudn't?!

I follow some of my favorite models on Instagram so I decided I'd follow her too. I was really suprised at the type of things she would post. Everything was extremely positive and not too revealing. Now a days - I feel like every model just posts shots of their butt and boobs to get "likes." But Gigi was different - not only does she have looks but she also has a compelling message.
As some of you who follow fashion know that the last 2 weeks have been New York Fashion Week then onto Milan and Paris. Gigi was basically the front runner for every show. She walked for Tommy Hilfiger, Jeremy Scott, Versace, Tom Ford and the list goes on.

Some of you may be thinking okay yeah she's pretty but why should we claim her as a "role model?" After posting an image to Instagram from the Tommy Hilfiger show, one of the many major shows she walked in during New York Fashion Week, Hadid was the victim of a slew of negative comments about her body. She went back to Instagram and fought back against some of the 2,697 negative comments left on the photo. She admitted that she's "human" and did "let the negativity get to" her.

I absolutely love this and her. Just anothere example of sticking to what you love no matter what size you are - if you want to model then keep doing you and someone will notice. Hard work does pay off.
All women come in different shapes and sizes - and THEY ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL. Sometimes we get stuck looking at models and celebrities and wishing we looked like them instead of being grateful for what we have. Because what we have is beautiful. It really is.
Thanks for the reminder, Gigi.
Xoxo,
A Guy's Girl
