College, we all wish it would last forever.
But unfortunately it only lasts a short period of time in our lives...
There are so many things you can do while you're in college but life gets so dang busy. Sometimes just getting by doing the bare miminum and spending all your free time watching Netflix or poisioning your liver seems a heck of a lot better. Trust me, I feel you. Sure in the moment, it is. But looking forward you don't want to look back at your college career wishing that you did more or extended yourself more.
At your college, there are endless opportunities all waiting for you to seize them. But you have to do exactly that. You gotta go out there try things and extend yourself.
There are so many benefits of putting yourself out there. But of course you're in your twenties, so you know everything right? Well I hate to give the bad breaking news to you but you do not know everything.
Also, for some college students they are undeclared majors, so what better way to find your way and passion than really involving yourself in your campus. Also, it's so fun and a great way to meet new friends.
Now is the time to do exactly that. So listen up college students, here are a couple things you should start taking advantage of at your school while you have the chance.
Attend guest speaker lectures
We have so many amazing guest speakers at USC and I am sure other colleges get great speakers as well. They have so much knowlegde and experience in their field that you can learn so much from. Also, connections duh.
Start developing relationships with all your professors
Yeah, I know you're busy but we all are. It's so important to really get a chance to get to know your professors. They can teach you so much. And also write amazing letters of recommendations for future job/internship opportunities.
Start making connections
Get well connected based on your interests. Start figuring out what your good at and working at what your not.
Attend workshops
I'm a decent writer but terrible at photoshop/ Adobe anything. USC offers workshops, I took one and was amazed. It was a lot easier than I thought.
Involve yourself in things to set you apart from others on the job market
EX: extracurricular actives, student government, greek life, clubs, etc. Resume boosters are the best.
Start making friends with the smart kids
At USC everyone is smart, but becoming friends that can help you be better is so beneficial and important. It can really help you learn a lot more and continue challenging yourself.
Start managing your time better
You are in college, so it's totally acceptable for time to have fun and time to work. You're lucky you can do both!
Land an your dream internship and work hard at it
Internships are so awesome because they can teach you so much about the field you are interested in going in. If the internship sucks, then you know why you should steer clear from that field. If it's great then you know you made the right choice.
Start taking advantage of those student discounts
Yeah, because they are EVERYWHERE. It's so beautiful.
Attend the cheap, basically free gym on campus regularly
I don't care who you are and how busy you are everyone has time to hop on the treadmill for 30 minutes in their day. Make your body a priority, you do have to live with it for the rest of your life.
Take advantage of your campus's health services
Yeah, you're in college, so no more doctors office with mommy or daddy. Start taking good take care of yourself! Be proactive and not reactive. Your body will thank you one day for it.
Start being spontanteous
Live it up! College is only once. So start stepping out of your comfort zone and find out who you are. That is what college is all about.
