New Years Resolutions: You Gotta Start Somewhere

New Years Resolutions, you either love making them or you dread it.

To be honest, I'm not really sure how I felt about them either. When I was younger, I always made such silly goals for myself. I never went through with them because I either forgot to or just plain old simply lost interest.

As I've gotten older, I've definitely started to take them more seriously. Not just because they are "New Year" resolutions but because they are goals. Goals are very important things to make for yourself as a young adult. Goals teach us to aim high with our dreams and strive all year to work hard to achieve them.

It's unfortunate that there is always a negative person out there who tends to hate on New Years resolutions because they feel people just make them because it's a new year and don't actually stick with them. Much like the people who say they are going to go to the gym a lot and they go for a solid 2 weeks then fizzle out.

I think the key to sticking with your New Years resolution is to make a realistic goal and maintain the right approach towards it. As working towards any new goal having the right attitude is key. When I was playing sports, all of my coaches would say playing the game is 70% mental and 30% physical. At the time, I never really believed it but I now know it to be very true on many levels, sports and beyond.

If the commitment issue of making a New Years resolution freaks you out then don't let it! Resolutions aren't meant to be scary or the end all be all goal if you can't reach it. A new year symbolizes a fresh start and a fresh start means re-evaluating yourself and where you are at in life. Starting with what you did last year and what you would like to accomplish this year.

When I establish new goals, I like to write them down in a couple places to help remind me of what direction I want to go in. When I start to swerve in life (because that happens to all of us!) that to remember to say the course and achieve the results you are working towards.

If you need inspiration for your resolution look no further than yourself! This year work on you and that means being your biggest cheerleader (sounds a little weird I know) but believing in yourself is half the battle of tackling a new goal. It's important to be able to cheer yourself on and celebrate the little victories leading up to the big ones. It's very easy for people to get hung up on the big goals in life (trust me, I know) and forget about the little victories along the journey. Stay focused and driven and you will get there!

So whether you are for or against New Years resolutions, I challenge you this year to take a new approach towards them. Whether it is making a 10 week or 10 month goal, pick something you want to better yourself at and go for it!

It's better to say you tried than you can't do it.

Whats your 2015 New Years resolution(s) going to be?

Xoxo,

A Guy's Girl
