I turn 23 in less than a week, what?!

It's hard to imagine turning 23 years old when it just feels like I was excited about turning 21 and being able to order my own alcoholic beverage. Time surely does fly.

As I approach my 23rd birthday, it puts a lot of things in perspective. Like am I where I want to be in life right now? Am I where I thought I was going to be in life this moment? Have Iearned everything I should have learned by now?

Here are some of the 23 most important things I've realized this past year....

1. You don't start truly enjoying school until college.

2. Your true friends are the ones who you sit and do laundry with while watching your favorite shows not the ones you go clubbing with.

3. You way lesser friends than you did in high school. But it's okay because you know they all truly have your back.

4. You are way more conscious of the things you put in your body. Its about time. You research medicine you take and at the end of the day you're the only one who knows whats best for you.

5. You are picky when it comes to dating. Because you'll either marry this one or breakup. No one has time for that lengthy sad breakups. No one!

6. Your family will always have your back. They used to drive you crazy, maybe they still do but they will never let you down. Ever.

7. You learn something new everyday about yourself. Whether it's your insane new cooking ability or the ability to drink a whole bottle of wine in 2 hours.

8. You set big goals for yourself, not just new years resolutions and forget about them. You work everyday towards them and you ultimately achieve them. It pays off in a big big way.

9. You are more independent than you ever have been and it feels great. If you have roommates it feels great to have and enjoy your alone time when you get it.

10. Friends that you never thought were your best friends suddenly are your number ones. The ones that were always there will pop up because you never really gave them a chance. But you are sure happy you did.

11. You maintain relationships because in order to keep good ones with friends/fam/gf/bf it takes effort from both parties. A lot of effort.

12. You hold your reputation with pride. Because unlike not caring in high school, you want people to think good things when they think of you. Especially if that good reputation gets you a good letter of recommendation for your dream job.

13. You have a great sense of your strengths and weaknesses and are doing anything you can do improve.

14. You know it's awesome to be different unlike in high school where everyone was doing everything they could to blend in. Things that set you apart is what makes you you.

15. You've stop trying to please everyone. It's impossible and you have finally realized that.

16. Time is so valuable. Life is busier than ever but you are enjoying every second of it and where it's taking you.

17. You are prouder than ever of your accomplishments. Whether it's getting a bachelors degree, buying you first house, landing an internship or your first big girl job.

18. It's just as much fun staying in with your girls as it is to go out and get slammed. Because suddenly a night out of drinking takes 2 1/2 days to recover from. Again, nobody has time for that.

19. Instead of being easily immaturely offended by constructive criticism, you take it with a grain of salt and help it make you better.

20. Change is constant, you've been through a lot in these last 23 years. But it's made you so strong. Stronger than ever.

21. You're the only one who can change your attitude. Don't rely on other people to make you better. The only person that can change something with you is you.

22. Failure doesn't scare you it drives you.

23. You are not scared to be exactly who you are. Without judgement of others or approvals. YOU believe in yourself and that is everything.

I have learned a lot in my 23 years on earth. I have done some crazy things and lived an insane life that I would never ever change. Life is a huge learning experience and if you do it just right you will never ever regret anything.

The most important thing I've learned in my 23 years on earth is that life down here is all temporary until we get to the pearly white gates to hangout with God. So make him proud while you are down here. There is nothing more important than having faith.

If you have faith, then you have won the game of life.

So cheers to 23 more exciting years ahead!!!!

Xoxo,

A Guy's Girl (The almost birthday girl!!)
